About the event

IWIB's Youth Chapter members will learn about Artificial Intelligence (AI) with guest speaker, Imane Hmiddou, who is an MA graduate from the Metropolitan University of Prague, with honors, in International Relations and European Studies. Her Bachelor’s Degree is a multidisciplinary program merging three branches of Social Sciences; Economics, Political Sciences, and Sociology.

In Imane's words: "Cyber Diplomacy, Digitalization, Security in Cyberspace, and Cyber Governance are topics that highly intrigue my interest. An interest that initially started with Artificial Intelligence. For this reason, I joined a research group in the Global Arena Research Institute, where we worked on the “Next 100 Symposium;” An annual conference about AI, that adopts a multidisciplinary approach. While I independently conducted another AI-related research at the Institute of International Relations in Prague. Afterward, I chose ‘Global Governance of AI’ as the topic of my Master’s Degree thesis, where I studied the International Law of Data Security, the adopted approaches of AI governance, their limits, and how to increase their efficiency in ensuring secure usage of AI."

Over sixty countries adopted an AI National Strategy to stimulate its implementation in diverse fields. Governments introduced several initiatives as well to promote AI development, legislate it, and govern its socio-economic dynamics. This illustrates a national willingness to invest in data-driven technologies and to boost innovation in this regard. It is indeed an applauded act from governments to enhance research & development, the driver of innovation, which has proven to be the source of growth throughout human history.  In this sense, Artificial Intelligence is implemented in different fields nowadays, with one commonality; enhancing their efficiency. Business, Finance, Marketing, Health, Education, Politics, Security, and many other areas have included data-driven solutions to their respective challenges and tasks. AI is even implemented for ‘Good’ acts, such as fighting climate change through research and driving sustainable smart cities. It is, however, sometimes perceived as rather a threat, with a fear of losing our jobs to the algorithm, especially with its technical potential in surpassing humans in the completion of repetitive and computable tasks.  AI programs help us understand, predict, decide, increase efficiency, and amplify productivity in different fields.  With this perfect picture of AI, a challenging technical and empirical side comes to the table. AI is flexible, discrete, and unpredictable.

This event is sponsored by IWIB's Patron, The Euro-Gulf Information Center (EGIC).
